Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Dr. Fernandez is a graduate of the University of Miami where he was inducted into the Golden Key International Honor Society and Phi Beta Kappa Medical Honor Society. He received his medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and completed both his internship and residency at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. He completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.

During his education, Dr. Fernandez was a frequent presenter at national conferences and lecturer on gastroenterology topics for his peers. He was also appointed as a Clinical Lecturer while he was a faculty member at the University of Michigan. In addition, he has been published in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Laparoendoscopic & Advanced Surgical Techniques and Digestive Diseases and Sciences.

Dr. Fernandez is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology and is a member of the American College of Physicians, the Society of Hospital Medicine, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

He has extensive training in inflammatory bowel disease management with an emphasis on colon cancer surveillance in at-risk demographics. Dr. Fernandez joined Associates in Digestive Health in 2019.

 Dr. Fernandez is an avid outdoor enthusiast and excited to be back in Florida closer to family and to enjoy access to year-round activities. In addition, his Cuban background and Spanish speaking skills will enable him to make a greater impact to an increasingly diverse southwest Florida community.
